Edge Protection for a Landmark Mass Timber Project – Walmart Home Office
The Walmart Home Office campus in Bentonville, Arkansas, is one of the largest mass timber corporate developments in North America, spanning more than 1.2 million sq ft across five buildings. Designed with sustainability, wellbeing, and innovation at its core, the project is targeting LEED Platinum certification.
As a trusted partner to Mercer Mass Timber, Rapid-EPS was proud to supply engineered edge protection solutions that combined safety, adaptability, and innovation on this prestigious development.
Project Overview
Client: Mercer Mass Timber (for Walmart)
Location: Bentonville, Arkansas, USA
Scope: 1.2 million sq ft campus across five buildings
Sustainability: Targeting LEED Platinum certification
Timber Volume: ~21,000 m³ CLT & Glulam supplied by Mercer Mass Timber
The Challenge
The scale and ambition of the Walmart Home Office campus demanded safety solutions that could adapt to both mass timber construction methods and hybrid elements such as steel framing and glazing. The project also required bespoke innovation to address restricted installation spaces without compromising compliance.
Rapid-EPS’ Contribution
1. Branded Rapid Panels
We supplied Rapid Panels in Mercer’s corporate colours (white), complete with their logo, ensuring not only compliance and protection but also strong brand presence on-site.
2. Steel Frame Posts
Although this was primarily a mass timber build, Steel Frame Posts were deployed — proving the adaptability of the Rapid-EPS system across different construction methods.
3. Engineered 3″ Facemount Bracket (NA207)
Working closely with Mercer, our team developed a new 3″ Facemount Bracket (NA207) to solve a specific site challenge:
Only a 4″ gap was available between the structure and the cladding/glazing.
Brackets needed to be removable (non-sacrificial) for ongoing works.
We engineered a slotted fixing design, allowing fixings to be loosened and brackets lifted out — compact, reusable, and fully compliant.
Why It Matters
The Walmart Home Office campus represents a turning point in modern construction — demonstrating how sustainability, innovation, and safety can align at scale.
For Rapid-EPS, this project highlights:
Collaboration with Mercer Mass Timber, delivering bespoke safety solutions.
Innovation in engineering, with branded panels and custom bracketry.
Adaptability of systems, proven effective in both mass timber and steel applications.
Conclusion
The Walmart Home Office is more than a corporate campus — it is a statement about the future of the built environment. By working alongside Mercer Mass Timber, Rapid-EPS supplied bespoke branded Panels, Steel Frame Posts, and a new 3″ Facemount Bracket, helping deliver a project that balances safety, innovation, and sustainability on a global stage.
