Karlatornet is a landmark skyscraper in Gothenburg, Sweden, rising to ~245–246 m (74 storeys) and now the tallest building in Scandinavia.
Rapid-EPS supplied Rapid Posts and Double Height Rapid Panels via Ischebeck Titan Ltd, contributing engineered edge protection solutions throughout this flagship high-rise project.
Our systems supported safe working at height during façade, structural, and slab construction phases — ensuring continuous perimeter safety through a project with complex geometry and logistical constraints.

Rapid-EPS’s Role & Edge Protection Contribution
Products Supplied
- Rapid Posts — main vertical support posts installed along slab edges, façade perimeters, and transition lines.
- Double Height Rapid Panels — used in zones requiring extended vertical coverage, minimising intermediate rails and maintaining continuity across multi-level façades.
These components were delivered through Ischebeck Titan Ltd, facilitating installation alongside local contractor scheduling and site phasing.
Collaboration
Rapid-EPS coordinated with Ischebeck Titan Ltd to align deliveries and on-site installation phases with structural, façade, and glazing works.
The modularity of our systems allowed for phased installation, removal, and repositioning to match evolving slab levels and façade access requirements.
Challenges & Solutions
Challenge 1 — Tall height & wind exposure
At ~245 m, edge protection had to resist significant wind loads while maintaining deflection limits.
→ Solution: Posts were anchored with robust footing/connection methods, and panel spacing/rigidity optimised to maintain structural performance under wind.
Challenge 2 — Variable geometry & step-backs
The tower features setbacks and changing perimeter profiles as it rises.
→ Solution: Rapid systems were adapted per level — posts and panels adjusted to match changing slab edges while preserving continuous guard line coverage.
Challenge 3 — Logistics in a dense urban riverside environment
Limited laydown, access constraints, and staging close to water.
→ Solution: Use of modular, lightweight components and just-in-time logistics minimised onsite storage needs and facilitated efficient handling.
Challenge 4 — Façade & glazing sequencing requiring panel removal
Glazing and façade teams needed temporary access through face zones.
→ Solution: Panels were designed for quick removal and reinstatement, so trades could access the façade while edge protection remained in place elsewhere.
Why It Matters
Karlatornet is more than Sweden’s tallest building — it’s a symbol of modern, sustainable urban vertical living. Rapid-EPS’s involvement demonstrates:
- The ability of our edge protection systems to scale across record-height towers
- Flexibility in adapting to complex step-backs, changing façade profiles, and logistics
- Proven collaboration with Ischebeck Titan Ltd in large-scale European projects
