What is Edge Protection?
Edge Protection Systems, when installed to the manufacturers guidelines provide a safe working environment for people working at height. Mesh barrier systems such as Rapid-EPS have become a default for some contractors, but others within the industry are still not aware of the innovative solutions that are available to them and how they can save lives and drastically improve installation and maintenance time.

What it’s designed to do?
Temporary Edge Protection Systems are used in construction work primarily to prevent people and materials from falling to lower levels from the working platform.
Minimum Requirements for an Edge Protection System
An edge protection system should consist of a principle guardrail and either an intermediate guardrail or intermediate protection. It should be possible to attach a toeboard. All components within the system should be designed to avoid accidental removal or displacement of any component during use.
In the UK, the Work at Height Regulations 2005 govern the requirements for the prevention of falls from height. These regulations make clear the requirements for selecting collective measures such as edge protection in preference to personal fall protection measures.
Further to the legal requirements set out in the Work at Height Regulations 2005, all edge protection systems should comply with the British and European Standard for Temporary Edge Protection Systems known as BS EN 13374:2013+A1 2018.
This standard specifies the requirements for installing edge protection onto flat and inclined working surfaces and clearly sets out the requirements for meeting the three classes of edge protection:
Class A: Edge protection for flat surfaces and slopes up to 10 degrees.
Class B: Edge protection for flat surfaces and slopes up to 30 degrees or with limitations up to 45 degrees.
Class C: Edge protection for steeply sloping surfaces up to 45 degrees or with limitations to 60 degrees.
Static load testing, low dynamic loading or high dynamic loading is required for each individual class of system.
The Rapid System is robust but flexible and can provide protection for every stage of the project and, not only meets but exceeds the requirements set out for Class A and Class B systems.
